Program promises help for Illinois homeowners facing foreclosure
Realtor Joyce Johnston says the number of foreclosed Homes for Sale in Belleville is a good barometer of the number of families hurting because one or both parents lost their jobs. To qualify for help paying their mortgage, a homeowner has to have at least a 25 percent drop in income, and household income cannot be more than 120 percent of the local median income. Recipients can get a maximum of $25,000 over 18 months. Clair already had 40 applicants by the time the program was announced Thursday.
